Summer

Summer has flown by! It's my favorite time of year (but I'm working hard to embrace all the seasons).  As we start getting ready for school by ushering in earlier bedtimes, returning to routines, and school supply shopping it seems appropriate to reflect on some of my favorite memories.  It's been an incredible couple of months and a pretty amazing mixture of perfect and total chaos.

We built an extra special bucket list and really enjoyed randomly choosing our adventures for the day.  The rascals did so well with understanding that some of them involved delayed gratification - for example we had to plan our trip to the zoo and they poured energy into helping choose what activities we would enjoy while we were there.  It was so neat to watch their enthusiasm as they bounced into the day and it particularly touched my heart to see how they anticipated Jamesey's involvement in the activity and discussed how he could enjoy it more.

I enjoyed our adventures with paint.  Epic messiness but oh the giggles.  We tried bubble painting, squirt gun painting, bubble-wrap painting, Hot Wheels car painting, shaving cream and flyswatter splat painting, oil and water painting - just to name a few.  There has been some expressed disappointment that we didn't try balloon painting but the summer isn't over yet!

The connection time with our friend community has been so good for us.  But, it's taught me that I need to remember that my littles have limits and we need to slow down before they reach that point! I found that mornings could have some structure but that afternoons needed to be more free and that two playdates a day maxed out my monkeys.  Our friends shone so much light into the summer and it was such a delight to see imaginations at work, hands and feet at play and to hear the delight of their laughter.

We ate so many popsicles! From Rocket Pops to Flavor Ice and fudgesicles and making our own Ring Popsicles - they were all delicious! Making our own was an experience - probably should have shared those pictures (hahaha).

There were days spent at amusement parks, Paulus farms, swimming pools, visits to Gran and afternoons with Miss Jill.  Grocery store runs for sweet corn, peaches, cherries, watermelon, honeydew and all the yummy foods of summer.

Even though we're easing out of the summer season, summer weather and summer schedules I'm so thankful for the memories that we've made and the experiences we've had.  Most of all, I'm thankful that we don't stop making memories just because one time ends.  So here's to making more summer, fall, winter and spring memories!
